Creative Café: Nurturing Creativity and Community Through History

A collection of artworks created during the Creative Café workshops, held every Thursday morning at Tang Hall Library from October to December 2023.

Under the guidance of professional artists Gemma Wood and Rachael Ensoll, residents drew inspiration from the rich history and untold stories of Tang Hall found in the nationally significant Explore York Archives collections.

The Creative Café aimed to enhance participants’ confidence, foster social interaction, provide a sense of belonging, alleviate loneliness, create a sense of place, and improve wellbeing.

This felt like a full circle job as I had been asked photograph the maps the artists had chosen to work with and then to capture the exhibition event at the end of the project.
